My experience: I cut firewood with a borrowed saw; the knife I only touched in a store
I used the Uniflame Tsubame-Sanjo no Nokogiri saw, borrowed from a friend. In November 2025 I spent one night at Fumotoppara with friends. It was clear and 8°C. While cutting firewood, my hand did not tire easily and I could cut many thin logs with ease, which helped.
I cut ten logs about 5cm thick in about 10 minutes, and the cut was good. Taking it in and out of the case was no problem, and care is just wiping it. My trouble was resin sticking to the blade and making it harder to cut, so I wiped it with a wet tissue before using it. Since then I wipe it right after use.
I only touched the UF Bushcraft Knife in a store, and I have never split firewood with the knife. I only looked at the two-piece set in a store. Compared with my hatchet and folding saw, the saw gave the impression of cutting thin logs more safely. I carry blades in a case in the car trunk, and I follow the rule of not carrying them around without a legitimate reason. I wavered over buying the saw alone or the set, and what decided it was being able to check the cut by borrowing. If I chose again, I would buy the saw alone. In short, buying the saw first will not let you down.

First I looked at the total for the single items. The UF Bushcraft Knife is JPY 6,600 and the Tsubame-Sanjo Saw is JPY 5,060, JPY 11,660 together. The set at JPY 8,140 is JPY 3,520 cheaper, about 30% (3,520 ÷ 11,660).
Next I added up the weight. Knife body about 150g plus sheath about 40g plus saw about 155g comes to about 345g (150 + 40 + 155). That is lighter than a 500ml bottle and will not get in the way on a waist belt.
What gave me pause was buying two blades at once. I still recommend it. The knife whittles thin, the saw cuts to length, and their jobs do not overlap. You get the first two firewood tools at once, for less than separately.

The knife is a full-tang design, one piece of steel from blade to handle. Its spine has square corners, so it can throw sparks from a ferro rod (metal match). The sheath has a belt loop so you can wear it at the waist.
The saw locks open and folds to about 14cm. It has a carabiner, so you can hang it from a pack or belt. The blade can be swapped for a separate replacement blade (JPY 1,540), so you do not have to buy the whole saw again when it dulls.

Since the contents are the same as last year, the decision is simple. If you own no bushcraft tools, plan on the limited-run set selling out before you would buy two separate items; that is the cheaper way in.
What I like
The good part is that the entry to firewood prep is complete for JPY 8,140. The knife splits thin pieces and the saw cuts thicker branches. The 2 things you need to prepare a fire come together, both from UNIFLAME.
A replacement blade for the saw also suits people who use it for a long time. You replace the blade for JPY 1,540 instead of the whole JPY 5,060 saw. At 20 nights a year, the set costs JPY 407 per night (8,140 ÷ 20). The more often you want to get firewood ready fast, the sooner it pays for itself.
Things to watch
These are blades, so read the handling cautions first. Both product pages warn against twisting the blade when it is stuck in wood, striking it against the ground, and using it on knots in firewood or bamboo, because the blade can chip.
It is a limited run and the quantity has not been published. Some shops do not carry it, so decide where to buy early. When carrying it, put the knife in its sheath, fold and lock the saw, and store both out of children's reach, such as in the cargo area of the car.
Who is it for?
It suits people who are starting bushcraft. It also suits people who own a fire pit and want to cut their own firewood small. Even on a walk-in camp, two items at about 345g add almost no burden.
