Review of the Therm-a-Rest Military NeoAir XTherm. Its R-value of 7.3 is the same as the current XTherm NXT; in RW it's +310g and +JPY 17,600. It's for people who lay a single mat on rock or frozen ground; if winter insulation is the goal, the NXT is enough. Pictured (Rakuten Ichiba): Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest Classic / Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol / NEMO Switchback Regular / NEMO Eclipse All-SeasonCamp mat R-values and how stacking two mats adds upI ran the numbers on 12 mats from official figures. As a rule of thumb, camp mats run R2.0 to 2.8 for three-season use and 5.4 for all-season. The pick for the bottom layer is the RidgeRest Classic (R2.0, JPY 3,575 per R-value point). Stacking two mats simply adds their R-values. I converted all 12 into price and weight per R-value point.Winter camping · Oct 18, 2026
