The NANGA Aurora Tex Light is a sleeping bag released on September 11, 2026, its first rework in 8 years. For spring-to-autumn camping and car camping, I'd choose the 480DX: comfort 0°C, about 870g, JPY 55,000 incl. tax. The outer fabric is waterproof-breathable, so the new model's strength is that you can use it without a cover even in tents with heavy condensation.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The outer is a waterproof-breathable fabric rated 20,394mm, so condensation on the tent walls has a hard time reaching the down. Because it stays dry, the warmth of 480g of down holds up until morning. So the 480DX is the bag I'd take out on damp autumn nights.

Key points

  • Down fill went from 350, 450 and 600g in the previous model to 380, 480 and 630g. Every model got a hood vent, and a 1100DX with more than 1,000g was added
  • The 480DX's price per gram of down is 55,000 ÷ 480 = about JPY 114.6. Cheaper than the 380DX's about JPY 130.3, more than the 630DX's about JPY 106.5
  • The 480DX packs to 14cm diameter × 31cm long, a volume of 3.14 × 7 × 7 × 31 = about 4.8L. About ten 500ml plastic bottles

When was the Aurora Tex Light released? Prices from JPY 49,500

The new Aurora Tex Light went on sale on NANGA's official online shop on Sep 11, 2026. It's the first rework in 8 years, with 6 models from the 380DX to the 1100DX.

Prices incl. tax: JPY 49,500 for the 380DX, JPY 55,000 for the 480DX, JPY 67,100 for the 630DX. There are 3 sizes, Short, Regular and Long; the Long costs JPY 2,200 more and has 30g more down.

How I judged it

When you sleep in a tent half the year, many autumn mornings start with the outside of the bag damp from condensation on the tent walls. So I check whether the outer fabric lets water through as carefully as I check the temperature numbers.

The Aurora Tex Light's outer is a waterproof-breathable fabric rated 20,394mm waterproof and 24,116g/㎡/24h breathable. On top of that, the comfort 0°C 480DX is about 870g and covers the chill of spring-to-autumn nights. I weighed it against the 630DX, but unless nights below 0°C keep coming, I'd take the 480DX, 320g lighter.

What changed from the previous model?

The biggest change is the down fill. The previous model went up in 50g steps like 350g, 450g and 600g; the new one resets the amounts to fit the construction at 380g, 480g and 630g. At the top, the range now goes up to a 1,100g model.

The construction changed too. Every model has a zip vent on the left side of the head, letting heat and stuffiness out of the bag. Models with 630g or more have a down tube at the waist (waist tube), and the zip has moved toward the chest.

The fill is 760FP Spanish duck down, washed in Japan in ultra-soft water. The outer and lining are both light 15-denier nylon, with box quilting on top and single quilting underneath to balance weight and warmth.

As shown on NANGA's official online shop on Oct 18, 2026 (incl. tax). The Revive Bag is Long only; the others are Regular figures.

The Drydrate Bag 470DX, also comfort 0°C, is 70g lighter and JPY 4,400 more (59,400 − 55,000). The 480DX's limit temperature is 3°C lower, and it's the one with the waterproof-breathable outer. If you want to shave every gram, the Drydrate; if you want to be ready for both condensation and cold snaps, the 480DX.

The Revive Bag -8 is JPY 3,300 cheaper and roomier in the body. If you drive and want to sleep with space to spare, read the Revive Bag review first.

480DX or 630DX: which should you choose?

The deciding factor is the overnight low where you camp. The 480DX's comfort temperature is 0°C, the 630DX's −6°C. For late-autumn and winter camping with a run of nights below 0°C, the 630DX; for spring to autumn, the 480DX is enough.

The 630DX is about JPY 106.5 per gram of down (67,100 ÷ 630), cheaper than the 480DX's about JPY 114.6. In exchange it's 320g heavier and JPY 12,100 more. I explain how to read comfort and limit temperatures in the sleeping bag comfort vs limit temperature article.

Who the Aurora Tex Light suits

It suits people who want to sleep without worrying about a wet bag in condensation-prone tents or car camping. It protects the down from water without a waterproof cover on top, so that's one less item to pack and one less step before bed. It comes in three sizes from Short to Long, so people up to 167cm and people 181cm and over can both get the right length. That's a nice touch in the new model.

Even for camping where you carry it on your back, the 480DX packs into 14cm diameter × 31cm, about 4.8L (3.14 × 7 × 7 × 31). If you'll sleep on snow in midwinter, you could go for the 630DX or above, or rethink the R-value of the mat underneath.
