The Captain Stag × Corona 50th anniversary kerosene heater, SZ-32CS-CS (U-1504), is a new color that ships from early November 2026. It's my pick for winter campers who also want the lantern-like glow of a flame. What decides it: the 3.19 kW output and about 12.3 h burn are unchanged, and the finish is black and gold. JPY 39,800 incl. tax; pre-orders at the official online store close Nov 1.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
Inside, it's the Corona SZ-32 as it was, with the same heat output and burn time as the existing dark green. So I read the JPY 3,000 difference as the price of the 50th-anniversary color, not a performance gap. If the numbers are the same, pick whichever matches your tent and other gear.
Key points
- Heat output 3.19 kW, tank 3.8 L, burn time about 12.3 hours and weight about 6.3 kg are the same as the dark green (JPY 36,800) and the beige/brown (JPY 37,800)
- Fuel burn is 0.310 L per hour. Eight night hours is about 2.5 L (0.31 × 8), so a full tank covers one night
- Pre-orders: Oct 16, 2026 to Nov 1, official online store only. The set with the storage case is JPY 53,000; the case isn't sold separately

When does the 50th kerosene heater come out? What does it cost?
The Captain Stag × Corona 50th kerosene heater SZ-32CS-CS (black, U-1504) ships from early November 2026. The price is JPY 39,800 incl. tax; the set with the dedicated storage case (UZ-13425) is JPY 53,000.
Pre-orders are at the official online store, from Oct 16, 2026 at 10:00 until Nov 1 at 23:59. It's a commemorative color for Captain Stag's 50th anniversary, with a 3D logo plate and gold accents on the front of the body.
How I judged it
First I compared the numbers with the two existing colors. Heat output, tank, burn time, weight and dimensions were all the same.
What gave me pause: is the same heater worth JPY 3,000 more? I still recommend it because black fits a site built from black gear, and it's a once-only 50th-anniversary color. You don't pick this one for performance. You pick it as the vessel for a flame you'll watch all winter from November.

Differences from the other colors and the bigger model
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Heat output | Tank / burn time | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50th SZ-32CS-CS (Black) | 3.19kW | 3.8 L / about 12.3 h | About 6.3 kg | JPY 39,800 |
| SZ-32CS (Dark green) | 3.19kW | 3.8 L / about 12.3 h | About 6.3 kg | JPY 36,800 |
| SZ-32CS-CT (Beige/Brown) | 3.19kW | 3.8 L / about 12.3 h | About 6.3 kg | JPY 37,800 |
| SL-51CS (reference, larger model) | 5.14kW | 6.0 L / about 12.0 h | 9.9kg | ― |
Fuel burn is 0.310 L per hour. Divide the 3.8 L tank by that and you get about 12.3 hours (3.8 ÷ 0.31), which matches the listed figure. Eight night hours is about 2.5 L (0.31 × 8), so starting from a full tank you get through one night without refueling.
The larger SL-51CS has about 1.6 times the output (5.14 ÷ 3.19) and about 1.6 times the weight (9.9 ÷ 6.3). Both come to about 2 kg per kW, so the weight you carry scales directly with output. If you carry it a long way from the car, the SZ-32's 6.3 kg is the more manageable size.
How the SZ-32CS works: a visible flame, no electricity
It's a wick-type, natural-convection kerosene heater with no fan and no power source. The red-hot combustion cylinder glows orange and doubles as a lantern-like light. It can boil water and heat without electricity, so it also serves as a disaster-preparedness tool.
Heating guide: up to 9 tatami mats in a wooden house, 12 in a concrete one. Spend more than half the year camping and the length of a winter night translates straight into fuel. So before output, I work out how many liters one night takes.
Rules for using it in a tent
Captain Stag lists three conditions for using it inside a tent: vents at the top and bottom, a removable floor sheet, and at least 100 cm between the stove and the tent's inner wall or anything flammable. The tents named as compatible are the UA-1001, UA-70, UA-47 and UA-46.
It can't be used in a windy spot, at a room entrance, or outdoors. Read the instruction manual before use and follow its rules. In its 2021 release, Corona prohibited use in any tent other than its approved ones, citing the risk of oxygen shortage and incomplete combustion.
The weak points
There's no built-in igniter, so you need a separate lighter for stoves. Pre-orders are only at the official online store, and the storage case can't be bought on its own, so if you want the case you have to order the set.
Who the 50th kerosene heater suits
It suits winter campers who want to enjoy the color of the flame, and anyone who wants a 50th-anniversary piece of their own. It keeps the 12.3-hour burn and adds a black-and-gold finish: a new model made to be the star of a winter night.
If color doesn't matter, the dark green is JPY 3,000 cheaper with the same numbers. Alongside heating, check how to read sleeping bag comfort temperature and the mat R-value that blocks cold from the floor, and your winter-night prep is complete.
