The Aero Cumulus Shell is Snow Peak's first air-frame shelter (a frame that stands on inflated air), released Sep 19, 2026. The price is JPY 242,000 incl. tax and the weight is about 24kg (including the air pump). In place of assembling poles, it is a tent that always needs something to inflate it with.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The Aero Cumulus Shell is a tent that swaps the effort of poles for a tool to put air in. If you want fast setup and a small pack, this way of building is worth it. At about 24kg, it suits families and groups with two or more pairs of hands to carry it.
Key points
- Price is JPY 242,000 incl. tax. The electric air pump is JPY 21,780 separately, and both together come to JPY 263,780
- It goes up in about 5 minutes with the electric pump and about 4 to 7 minutes by hand (the company's own reference values). There are 8 valves, and you inflate from 1 place when pitching
- Waterproof rating is 1,500mm or more for the fly sheet, ground sheet and bottom

How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the setup effort and the packed length. As an air frame, there is no pole assembly. It goes up in about 5 minutes with the electric pump and about 4 to 7 minutes by hand (reference values under the company's own measurement conditions).
From the standpoint of spending more than half the year in a tent, I look at packed length before weight. What gives trouble when loading a car is usually length more than weight. This bag is 94 × 38 × 40cm, a volume of about 143L. It weighs about 24kg, so choose by how many people will carry it.
On that basis, I recommend this tent to people who use it with family or a group and put pitching speed first. If you carry it alone, a much lighter tent is another way to choose.

How it differs from a pole tent: with an air frame, air stands in for the poles
An air frame is built by inflating TPU tubes to act as the columns. It is Snow Peak's first air-frame shelter. In place of the effort of threading poles, if the air leaks out the frame goes down too. Among 2-room tents that stand on air tubes, there is also LOGOS's Air Magic PANEL Tunnel Dome XL, which weighs about 16.5kg.
So you need to decide your inflating tool first. The set includes an air pump. The electric air pump is sold separately.
When is it out? By the numbers: release date, price, weight, waterproof rating
The price is JPY 242,000 incl. tax. Adding the electric air pump's JPY 21,780 makes JPY 263,780. The pump alone is about 9% of the main unit.

What I like: a build that lasts, down to the fabric and the canopy frame
What feels like Snow Peak about this new model is the care in the fabric. The outer fly is a 75D silicone polyester ripstop, with a light-blocking pigment PU coating and a UV-cut finish layered on top. It is built so the inside of the shelter does not get too bright under summer sun.
The air frame is TPU, and only the entrance canopy uses two A7001 aluminum frame poles (φ8.5mm). It uses the speed of air for the frame and the stiffness of aluminum to hold the canopy shape, each where it fits. This is the part I see as well thought out.
Differences from the Air Magic XL and the Dekinoko Tent Air
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Weight | Packed volume | Waterproof rating | Price (incl. tax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snow Peak Aero Cumulus Shell | About 24kg | About 143L | 1,500mm or more | JPY 242,000 |
| LOGOS Air Magic PANEL Tunnel Dome XL | About 16.5kg | 164L | 1,600mm (fly) | JPY 165,000 |
| DOD Deka Kinoko Tent Air | About 18.2kg | About 101L | 3,000mm (minimum) | JPY 129,800 |
It is the heaviest and most expensive of the three. Still, it packs about 21L smaller than the LOGOS (164 − 143), and fits in a cargo cross-section of 38 × 40cm. I read the price gap as what you pay for the build of the fabric and the canopy frame. For a large air shelter under JPY 100,000, compare the WAQ AIR VISTA review too.
Two things to watch
The first is relying on air. The frame stands on air pressure, so you cannot pitch if you forget the pump. Decide before pitching whether the included pump is enough or you will add the electric one for speed.
The second is weight. About 24kg matters more the longer the carry from the car to the pitching spot. Volume is about 143L, about 6L per kilogram. It is not light for the size of the bag.
What you also need, and who it suits
Duralumin pegs are not included, so prepare 18 forged pegs of 30cm or more in length separately. Guy lines of 2.5m, 3.5m and 4.5m come 4 each.
It suits families and groups who want to finish pitching quickly and use a good shelter for a long time. If you look at weight and price first, LOGOS or DOD in the table above are other ways to choose.
