The 50th Limited Cocoon III is a limited model of Coleman's top-end 2-room tent, finished in black for Coleman Japan's 50th anniversary. On sale in stages from Sep 11, 2026 at JPY 199,290 incl. tax. Dimensions, weight, waterproof rating and price match the standard Cocoon III; the differences are the color, the limited logo and how the fly is coated.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The Cocoon III is a 2-room tent with extra-thick aluminum poles and a 10,000mm floor, one you can leave pitched through all four seasons. The limited model keeps that frame and fabric and just wears black. So if I am buying a Cocoon III anyway, I pick this one: for the same price, it is a commemorative tent.

Key points

  • Price is the same as the standard model, JPY 199,290. Bedroom about 360 × 240cm, weight about 34kg, fly about 3,000mm and floor about 10,000mm
  • The standard model's fly is a light-blocking PU, while the limited model has a color pigment coating. Both coatings are there to hold down light and temperature rise
  • Add the separately sold inner tent and the bedroom becomes 2 rooms. The inner is due in stages from February 2027

When is the 50th Limited Cocoon III out, and what does it cost?

Pre-orders opened on Aug 18, 2026 at the official online shop, with general sale in stages from Sep 11. The price is JPY 199,290 incl. tax, the same as the standard Cocoon III.

The Cocoon III is a 2-room tent in Coleman's top-tier Master Series. Sleeping in a tent more than half the year, you choose gear assuming rainy, windy nights will come. So with a big tent I first look at pole thickness and floor waterproof rating. This tent has main poles of about Φ19mm aluminum alloy and a floor of about 10,000mm.

How I judged it

First I subtracted the differences from the standard model. The price gap is JPY 0, the weight gap is 0kg, and dimensions and waterproof rating are the same.

If anything gives me pause, it is the color alone: black is a color where fabric takes on heat in summer sun. Still, I recommend it because the fly has a coating that holds down light transmission and temperature rise, and the limited logo even reaches inside the bedroom. For the same money, you get a once-in-50-years tent.

It is the same tent inside. Black or the standard color. The only difference in buying is that the limited model is an anniversary item in limited numbers.

Who is it for? Space in numbers

The bedroom is 3.6 × 2.4 = 8.64m². It fits two double-size inflatable mats. Dividing by the upper limit of 6 people, each person's width is 360 ÷ 6 = 60cm.

So the best fit is a family of 2 adults and 2–3 children. The living room can be turned to full mesh, and flipping up the front and side canopies gives you a roof for meals without pitching a tarp.

Families with more adults could wait for the separately sold inner tent. Add it and the bedroom becomes 2 rooms, due in stages from February 2027.

What I like

Strong on rainy nights. A floor of about 10,000mm is a very high number even among 2-room tents. How to read waterproof ratings is collected in our article on tent waterproof ratings. The Storm Guard wraps fabric around the poles to apply tension to both fabric and poles.

Pitchable in summer and winter. There are vents beside the roof and inner, and the hem is a full skirt. The clear-roof fly on the ceiling opens and closes, so you decide ventilation and brightness yourself.

One note: 34kg is a weight that goes in one bag. If you want to load and unload by yourself, you could choose a lighter tent.

How to compare with other 2-room tents

Among Coleman's other 2026 new models, the pick for lightness is the Tough Speed Dome DR Roof. Lining them up shows where the difference in what you pay lands.

As listed on Coleman's official online shop on Oct 18, 2026, and the divisions (199,290 ÷ 8.64, 94,900 ÷ 7.65). The DR Roof's 340cm bedroom measures 260cm on the narrow side.

Per 1m² of bedroom, the Cocoon III costs about 1.86 times as much. What that gap buys is a floor of about 10,000mm and a thick aluminum frame. The more you pitch in the rainy season or autumn rains, the more that gap means.

For people who put the 18kg weight and the price first, the DR Roof is a good choice too. Its roof fly uses dark room fabric that blocks over 90% of light.

A comparison with the Snow Peak Landlock X and others is in our comparison of 10 two-room tents.
