SOTO's Kakom Smoker (ST-180) is a solo smoker that went on sale on Jul 17, 2026. It is my pick for people who want to smoke snacks on the table, and the deciding points are a stainless steel box that folds to 4cm thick and smoking on the Regulator Stove ST-310 you already own. It is JPY 13,750 incl. tax and about 2.4kg.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
You put four shelves and four racks inside the stainless steel box and set it on the ST-310 with the Kakom Base Stand. The burner's flame sets the amount of smoke, so you need neither charcoal nor a dedicated smoking stove. So I choose the Kakom Smoker not as a new cooking tool but as a box that adds a smoking tier to the single burner I already use.
Key points
- In use it is 178mm wide, 170mm deep and 350mm high; packed it is 40mm deep. Folded, the volume is about 24% (40 ÷ 170)
- With the ST-310 and the base stand it comes to JPY 25,630 (13,750 + 4,400 + 7,480). If you already own the ST-310, it is JPY 18,150
- Use medium heat or lower. Wrap the chip tray in aluminum foil and poke 20 holes with a bamboo skewer before you start smoking

When did the Kakom Smoker come out? How much is it?
SOTO's Kakom Smoker (ST-180) went on sale on Jul 17, 2026. The price is JPY 13,750 incl. tax, and the weight is about 2.4kg for the body, lid, chip tray and 4 racks.
It is made of stainless steel in Japan. It comes with four shelf boards, a chip tray and four racks. The hook for hanging fish (ST-141) and a thermometer with a mounting hole (ST-140) are sold separately.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was where the heat comes from. The Kakom Smoker sits on the Regulator Stove ST-310 or Range ST-340, using the Kakom Base Stand (ST-3110).
What I wavered on was the price of JPY 13,750 for the smoker alone. I still recommend it because if you already own the ST-310, adding the stand is all it takes to have a smoking setup. Folding to 4cm and fitting into gaps in your gear was also a deciding point.

How the Kakom Smoker differs from SOTO's other smokers
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | In use | Weight | Materials | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kakom Smoker ST-180 | 178mm wide × 170mm deep × 350mm high | About 2.4kg | Stainless steel | JPY 13,750 |
| Kitchen Kobo ST-125 | Diameter 210 × height 160mm (capacity 1.9L) | 520g | Stainless steel (iron rack) | JPY 4,290 |
| Kunya (Smoke House) ST-114 | 230mm wide × 230mm deep × 520mm high | 520g | Cardboard | JPY 1,980 |
The Kitchen Kobo is a small smoker shaped like a 1.9L pot. The Kunya is a cardboard box and comes with one mini smoke wood. The Kakom Smoker sits between them as a box that “stacks shelves and smokes over an outside burner.”
Dividing price by weight, the Kakom Smoker is about JPY 5.7 per gram (13,750 ÷ 2,400) and the Kitchen Kobo about JPY 8.3 (4,290 ÷ 520). The price looks high, but you are paying for the amount of stainless steel, and the maker pitches it as a durable Japan-made stainless steel box.
Packed, the depth is 40mm, about 24% of the 170mm in use (40 ÷ 170). It fits in the space of a single 350mm-tall board.
How the Kakom Smoker works: stacked shelves, food hung from above
You stack up to four racks inside the stainless steel box and smoke with the smoke rising from the chip tray below. Fit the included shelf board in the upper tier and use the ST-141 hook, and you can also hang fish.
When you spend more than half the year camping, the nights are long and there is plenty of time to add one more snack. So I choose a smoking tool by whether it needs a separate stove. If the burner you already have will do, your gear grows by only one box.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 4,400 (as of 10/18). Prices vary by up to JPY 5,300 between shops. Prices change daily.
The weak points
It cannot be used alone: you need the base stand and the ST-310 or ST-340. Everything together comes to JPY 25,630 (13,750 + 4,400 + 7,480), a high combination for an easy smoking setup. With the Range ST-340 (JPY 9,790) as the burner, it comes to JPY 27,940. The weight is also about 4.6 times the Kitchen Kobo (2,400 ÷ 520).
Smoking rules: how to keep the chips from catching fire
SOTO's cautions say to use medium heat or lower while using it. Put the chips on the chip tray, wrap the whole tray in aluminum foil, and poke 20 holes with a bamboo skewer or similar. Keep the foil off the bottom surface where the flame touches.
Start with the door open and close it once the smoke is steady. If the inside gets too hot, the chips may catch fire, so open the lid now and then to adjust the temperature. If it does catch fire, cover it with a wet cloth to put it out.
Who the Kakom Smoker is for
It suits people who own the ST-310 and want to try smoking snacks on the table at a campsite night. It folds a stainless steel box to 4cm and turns the burner you already use into a smoking stand, a new product that makes a solo night one dish richer.
If you think of lightness first, there is also the 520g Kitchen Kobo. I put the base stand's detailed numbers in the Kakom Base Stand review and the burners in the single burner ranking.
