Home › Ranking › Camp Cookware Sets for 4 People: Ranking of 7

The No. 1 camp cookware set for four is Captain Stag's Aluminum Cooker L Set. Two pots hold about 7.5L yet it weighs about 1.3kg, and 173g per liter of capacity is the lightest of the seven. For people who want a rice pot and strainer packed in one, I put Uniflame's fan5duo at No. 2.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

A cookware set's weight is mostly decided by the pot material. Even in the same 7L range, two aluminum pots weigh about 1.3kg, and with a stainless pot it becomes about 2.3kg. So even for car camping I look at aluminum sets first, and only people who hang pots over a campfire go to stainless.

Key points

  • Weight per liter of total pot capacity runs from 173 to 291g. The lightest is the Captain Stag Aluminum Cooker L Set, and the heaviest is the Uniflame fan5duo, which includes two stainless pots
  • Price per liter runs JPY 2,326 to JPY 5,585. The lowest is the mont-bell Alpine Cooker 16+18 Pan Set, and the Trangia is high because the price includes a windscreen and alcohol burner
  • The Snow Peak Field Cooker Pro.3 is a stainless set the official page says works on campfires and charcoal. But at 2.2kg it is heavy

Camp cookware set weight differs by 1kg in the same 7L range

The Captain Stag Aluminum Cooker L Set holds about 7.5L in two pots and weighs about 1.3kg. Uniflame's fan5duo holds 7.9L in three pots and weighs about 2.3kg.

I compared 7 cookware sets that nest into one for storage. I split the headcount guide in the table.

How I chose

The first thing I looked at was weight per liter of total pot capacity. When you spend half the year camping, you take pots in and out dozens of times a year. So before price, I check whether a set is light for the amount it holds.

Next was price per liter. Last, I separated close ranks by whether a frying pan or strainer comes with it. The two stainless sets at No. 6 and 7 are placed at the bottom without comparing per liter.

As shown on each official page on Oct 14, 2026; prices include tax. Weight per liter is my own calculation: set weight ÷ total pot capacity (frying pans are left out of capacity, and the fan5duo uses the filled-to-the-brim figure). The weights and prices of No. 6 and 7 are in their own sections.

No. 1 costs only JPY 550 more than No. 2, and that makes it 1kg lighter.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 9,460 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 25,261 between shops. Prices change daily.

Capacity is not measured the same way across sets. The fan5duo uses the filled-to-the-brim amount, and the SOTO totals about 3.0L when full. So I did not decide ranks on differences of 20 to 30g.

Why this order

RankModelWhy it ranks here
1Captain Stag Aluminum Cooker L SetAt 173g per liter it is the lightest of the top five, and even comes with a frying pan
2Uniflame fan5duoIt includes a rice pot and strainer, but is about 1kg heavier than No. 1
3mont-bell Alpine Cooker 16+18 Pan SetLowest at JPY 2,326 per liter, but at 3.5L it is too small for hot pot for 4 people
4SOTO Navigator Cook SystemThe lightest at 480g, but the frying pan is sold separately and it is for 1 to 2 people
5Trangia Storm Cooker L UltralightA windscreen and burner fit into 895g, but JPY 5,585 per liter is the highest
6Snow Peak Field Cooker Pro.3The official page says it works on campfires and charcoal, but it is stainless steel and heavy at 2.2kg
7Captain Stag Laguna Stainless Cooker L SetIt even includes a 900mL kettle, but it is stainless steel and heavy at about 2kg

No. 1 Captain Stag Aluminum Cooker L Set

Here is what I am excited about. It is light yet large. The 20cm pot is about 4.5L and the 18cm pot about 3.0L, and packed it is 220mm in diameter and 155mm high. It holds the 7L range, and is 2cm lower than the fan5duo.

This part is a weak point. The price is the highest of the seven, and no strainer or rice pot comes with it. It suits people who cook curry or hot pot for about four and want to keep weight down.

No. 2 Uniflame fan5duo

A rice cooker for 1 to 3 go, a 4.3L large stainless pot, a 1.8L single-handle pot, a frying pan and a strainer fit into about 21.5cm in diameter and 17.5cm high.

This part is a weak point. At about 2.3kg it is the heaviest of the seven. It is open-flame only and cannot be used on IH. It suits people who want to cook rice in a pot and boil noodles with a single set.

No. 3 mont-bell Alpine Cooker 16+18 Pan Set

Pots of 1.5L and 2.0L plus a deep 1.34L frying pan come to JPY 8,140. JPY 2,326 per liter is the lowest of the five I calculated. The biggest pot is 20cm across and 12.5cm high. Watch out: at 3.5L it is too small for hot pot for four.

It suits people who want a cheap first set for 2 to 3 people. You buy it from the official online store.

No. 4 SOTO Navigator Cook System

Nine pieces, including two pots, a lid, an insulating cover and handles, fit into 190mm in diameter and 92mm high, at 480g. The height is 60% of No. 1's. This part is a weak point. The frying pan is sold separately and the pots are 1.0L and 1.2L, small for soup for four.

It suits camping for 1 to 2 people. If you also smoke food, read SOTO's Kakom Smoker review too.

Pots of 1.5L and 1.75L and a 22cm frying pan fit in with a windscreen and alcohol burner, at 895g. The price includes the fire gear. Watch out: the storage bag is sold separately.

When you light and put it out, wear leather gloves and take care not to place it downwind. It suits people who do not own a burner.

Trangia Storm Cooker L Ultralight

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 13,200 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 18,150 between shops. Prices change daily.

No. 6 Snow Peak Field Cooker Pro.3

A set of two stainless pots (200mm and 174mm in diameter), a strainer and a steel frying pan, it works on campfires and charcoal. This part is a weak point. It is 2.2kg, packs to 227 × 184mm, and costs JPY 17,160.

If you hang pots over a campfire, I would move it up to No. 2.

A 20cm pot, a 16cm pot and a 22cm frying pan come with a 900mL kettle, and packed it is 220mm across and 150mm high. It is made in Japan. Watch out for the weight of about 2kg; the price is JPY 16,500.

It suits people who want a kettle in the same set.

As shown on each official page on Oct 14, 2026. Price per liter is my own calculation: official price ÷ total pot capacity. The headcount guide is official for the Aluminum Cooker L Set, fan5duo and Trangia; for SOTO I split it myself from the pot sizes. The numbers for No. 3, 6 and 7 are in their own sections.

Aluminum cookware handles differently depending on the surface treatment

Untreated aluminum discolors. The cause is strongly alkaline foods, such as the alkaline noodle water in ramen. Hard-anodized treatment, which builds a hard film on the surface, is pitched as resistant to scratches and wear and less prone to discoloring.

This time SOTO uses that treatment and Captain Stag uses anodizing. After the material column, read the surface column.

For the heat source side, I looked at it in the two-burner ranking and the difference between CB and OD canisters. mont-bell's cautions list not heating it empty and that the handle can get hot.

Who is it for?

It suits families who go by car and often make soup and hot pot. The No. 1 Aluminum Cooker L Set holds about 7.5L in two pots and weighs about 1.3kg. If you want a rice pot and strainer too, the fan5duo fits.

If you only grill or boil water, the pots and pans from home will do. If you carry it alone on foot, there is also a solo cooker under 19cm in diameter.

FAQ

How many liters of cookware do I need for 4 campers?

A set with one pot in the 4L range can make hot pot or curry. The Aluminum Cooker L Set, with a big pot of about 4.5L, is for 4 to 5 people.

Aluminum or stainless steel cookware: which is better?

For lightness, aluminum: among sets in the 7L range, the difference was about 1kg. The stainless Snow Peak is officially stated to work on campfires and charcoal fires.

Can I use the fan5duo on induction (IH)?

No. It is open-flame only. The mont-bell Alpine Cooker is also not IH compatible.
