Home › Ranking › Camp Trash Boxes Ranked by Whether a 45L Bag Fits: 7 Compared

For a camp trash box that takes the 45L bag you use at home as is, No. 1 is the Oregonian Camper Pop-Up Trash Box R2. Its capacity is about 55L, the official page says a 45L bag can be fixed with snap buttons on the inside, and the price is JPY 5,280. For people who want to confirm weight and folded thickness in numbers, I put the ogawa, also 55L at about 828g and 10cm thick, at No. 2.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

A trash box is decided not by the box but by the size of the bag you hang in it. If the box is smaller than the bag, the bag's mouth has extra, and if the box is bigger, the bag does not reach the bottom. So I first put on top those where the official page states the bag size, and for the rest I calculate capacity from the dimensions myself before ranking.

Key points

  • The Oregonian Camper R2, which officially writes the compatible bag size (45L), is No. 1. The R2, ogawa and LOGOS, which write capacity in L, let me work out price per liter too
  • Price per liter of capacity is about JPY 87 for LOGOS, JPY 96 for the R2 and JPY 114 for the ogawa. LOGOS splits 80L into 3, about 27L per 1 compartment
  • LOGOS is the one that officially writes “with lid.” Snow Peak closes the mouth with a drawstring, and DOD hides the bag with an accordion top

Even in the same “pop-up trash box,” the amount they hold differs by more than double

Oregonian Camper's R2 is 40cm across and 45cm high, about 55L. Coleman's Pop-Up Box is about 30cm across and about 34cm high, about 24L calculated from the dimensions. They are very similar cylinders, but only one fits the 45L trash bag you use at home.

I lined up 5 folding box types and 2 stand types that hang a trash bag.

How I chose

When you spend half the year camping, how you sort trash changes with where you stay. So before looks, I looked at whether it clearly states that a 45L bag fits, and how many bags it can hold.

Next I calculated price per liter, and split close ones by folded thickness and weight. The stand types cost more than 2.5 times No. 1, so they sit below the top three box types.

No. 5 Coleman Pop-Up Box (Coyote)About 24L by calculationAbout 30cm across × 34cm highJPY 4,290
As shown on each official page on Oct 14, 2026; prices include tax. Coleman's about 24L is my own calculation: 15cm radius × 15cm radius × 3.14 × 34cm high. Folded dimensions and weights are written in each rank's section. The No. 7 Captain Stag Monte (about 38 × 38 × 50cm high, JPY 2,420) is covered in the No. 7 section.

Price per liter of capacity, official price ÷ capacity, was about JPY 87 for LOGOS, JPY 96 for the R2 and JPY 114 for the ogawa. LOGOS is the lowest yet ranks No. 3, because it splits 80L into 3 compartments, making each about 27L (80 ÷ 3).

The stand types have legs, so they weigh about twice the heaviest box type, LOGOS. I compare tools for carrying from the parking lot to the site in the outdoor wagon ranking.

Why this order

RankModelWhy it ranks here
1Oregonian Camper R2The official page says it fixes a 45L bag, and it is JPY 990 cheaper than No. 2 at the same 55L
2ogawa Pop-Up Trash Box 55Numbers down to about 828g and 10cm thick are given, but at JPY 114 per liter it is JPY 18 more than No. 1
3LOGOS Folding Dust BOXWith a lid and 3 sorting compartments, about JPY 87 per liter, but each of the 1 compartments is about 27L, small for a 45L bag
4Snow Peak Gabbing StandIt hangs 3 bags and closes with a drawstring, but the price is about 3.5 times No. 1
5Coleman Pop-Up BoxLight at about 510g, but the calculated capacity is about 24L
6DOD Stealth X (Tan)The top becomes a table and sorts up to 6 types, but at about 2.2kg it is the heaviest in the two quick tables
7Captain Stag MonteAt JPY 2,420 the price is the lowest of the 7, but it sorts only up to 2 bags

No. 1 Oregonian Camper Pop-Up Trash Box R2

Here is what I am excited about. It clearly states even the bag size: “fix a trash bag (45L) with the snap buttons on the inside.” The bottom is waterproof, and it has peg loops to stop it tipping.

This part is a weak point. At the official store a special shipping fee of JPY 1,320 flat nationwide applies, for a total of JPY 6,600. It suits families who want to use their home 45L bag as is.

No. 2 ogawa Pop-Up Trash Box 55

The dimensions are the same as No. 1, 40cm across and 45cm high, at about 828g and 10cm high folded. The numbers you want when packing are all there. The folded volume is about 12.6L (20 × 20 × 3.14 × 10).

This part is a weak point. It is listed as directly-operated-store only, so where you can buy is limited mostly to the official store. It is a box for people who pack a car trunk by dimensions.

No. 3 LOGOS Sorting Folding Dust BOX

The official page says “with lid.” The body comes in 3 colors, and you can sort by fastening bags with hook-and-loop. Folded it is 5cm thick, with a volume of about 10.7L (34 × 63 × 5).

The weak point is width, 63cm. Each compartment is about 27L, small for a 45L bag. It suits people who want to sort cans, bottles and burnables from the start.

No. 4 Snow Peak Gabbing Stand

Up to 3 plastic bags attach inside a tarpaulin bag, and you pull the drawstring to close the mouth. It is a 3-piece set of frame, bag and storage case.

This part is a weak point. JPY 18,260 is about 3.5 times No. 1. It is for people who want to match the height and color of a Snow Peak table.

Snow Peak Gabbing Stand

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 16,380 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 25,936 between shops. Prices change daily.

No. 5 Coleman Pop-Up Box (Coyote)

Folded it is about 30cm across × 9cm and about 510g. It comes with four stainless steel clips that pinch the bag, and the load capacity is written as about 10kg.

This part is a weak point. By calculation it is about 24L, so a 45L bag leaves a lot of extra at the mouth. It is for solo or two people using bags of around 30L, and for the bigger option there is the Pop-Up Box M at about 46 × 57cm, about 1.1kg, JPY 6,600 (listed as limited to some stores).

Coleman Pop-Up Box (Coyote)

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 3,260 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 5,490 between shops. Prices change daily.

No. 6 DOD Stealth X (Tan)

Close the accordion top and the trash bag is hidden, and the top becomes a table with a static load capacity of about 30kg (a guide value). The 12 carabiners inside sort up to 6 types.

The trouble is stock. The official store shows no colors available to buy, and Black has been discontinued. For people who do not want to show the trash box, it would rank higher.

No. 7 Captain Stag Monte Pop-Up Dust Box

The price is less than half of No. 1. Hooks sort the bag into 2, and it also comes with a belt to fasten it to a tarp pole or table leg.

This part is a weak point. It sorts only up to 2 bags, fewer than the 3 of LOGOS and Snow Peak. It is an entry point for people who want to try one first.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 1,510 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 2,420 between shops. Prices change daily.

Does a camp trash box need a lid?

For national park visitors, the Ministry of the Environment guides: do not leave food, belongings or trash out, seal belongings as much as possible, and at campsites with food containers or food lockers, store them inside. The axis is not “a lid” but “do not leave it out, seal it, and store it in the designated place.”

I read a cloth lid or drawstring as something that hides what is in the bag and keeps its mouth closed. On wind, Coleman explains that if you fasten it to a chair or table, it is hard to knock over even in wind. Where you put it at night and when you are away should follow the rules of the campsite you stay at. I compare hard boxes in the container box ranking.

Who is it for?

It suits people who use the 45L bag from home as is and want to keep their trash together at the site. With the No. 1 R2, you can fasten the bag with snap buttons on the inside.

If the trash area is right next to your site, just hanging a bag on a table leg is enough.
