A guide to portable power station capacity for camping: 200Wh for a day trip, 500Wh for an overnight, and 1,000Wh if you also run an electric blanket or big appliances. No. 1 is the Jackery 1000 New V3, released on Jul 24, 2026. It fits 1024Wh into about 10.6kg, and its capacity per kg and price per Wh are the best of the six. For sites far from the car, the 500 New, at half the weight, is No. 2.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
A portable power station delivers only 80% of its listed capacity to appliances. Converting the battery's direct current to household alternating current turns some electricity into heat. So I divide the amount I want to use by 0.8 before choosing a capacity, and make the new model with the highest Wh per kg my pick.
Key points
- Usable amount is about 80% of the listing (Anker's explanation). 1024Wh gives about 819Wh, and 512Wh gives about 410Wh
- Capacity per kg ranges about 1.6x, from about 96.6Wh for the 1000 New V3 to about 60.9Wh for the RIVER 3 Plus
- Price per Wh is lowest for the 1000 New V3 at about JPY 107, and highest for the RIVER 3 Plus at about JPY 139

How many Wh for camping? Guides: 200, 500, 1,000
Even if it says 1024Wh, only about 819Wh reaches your appliances. Twenty percent disappears. Anker explains that power loss occurs during supply, so multiplying capacity by 80% gives the amount you can actually use.
The capacity guide has three tiers. I ranked among those you can buy on Rakuten.
- Day trips and day camps: 200Wh or more. If you mainly run a phone and an LED lantern, this is enough (Anker).
- Overnight: 500Wh or more. This is the tier if you use a fan in summer or an electric blanket in winter (Anker). Jackery says 400 to 700Wh for day trips through multi-night family trips.
- Large appliances such as electric heaters: 1,000Wh or more (Anker).
How I chose
First I divided the amount I want to use by 0.8. That is the starting point. Next I compared how many kg it takes to carry that capacity, by Wh per kg. Last I looked at the gap among the same capacities by price per Wh. That is the whole order.
When you spend half the year camping, a power station goes back and forth between the car and the site every time. So before the size of the capacity, I look at capacity per kg.

Why this order
| Rank | Model | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jackery 1000 New V3 | About 96.6Wh per kg and about JPY 107 per Wh, both the best of the 6 |
| 2 | Jackery 500 New | At 5.7kg it clears the 500Wh overnight guide, but it does not reach the electric heater tier |
| 3 | Anker × Snow Peak 1000 | At 1056Wh it is the largest of the six, but at about 12.9kg it is about 2.3kg heavier than No. 1 |
| 4 | EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | The same 1024Wh as No. 1, but about 1.9kg heavier and JPY 10,000 more expensive |
| 5 | Jackery 240 New | At about 3.6kg it clears the day trip's 200Wh, but output is up to 300W |
| 6 | EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus | Output is 600W, but about 60.9Wh per kg is the smallest of the six |
No. 1 Jackery 1000 New V3: 1024Wh, released July 2026
Here is what I am excited about. It is my pick. Jackery explains that it fits 1024Wh into about 10.6kg, 19% smaller than the previous model. The battery is lithium iron phosphate, and it charges and discharges from -10°C to 45°C. Those are strong numbers for cold. I put the details in the 1000 New V3 review.
This part is a weak point. It is heavy. Over 10kg, carrying it realistically means car to site only. It suits people who want to run an electric blanket for two nights.
No. 2 Jackery 500 New: an overnight 500Wh at 5.7kg
For the balance of lightness and capacity, this one. It is 512Wh, with a usable amount of about 410Wh (512 × 0.8). It clears the 500Wh overnight guide at about half the weight of No. 1. It lists charging and discharging from -20°C to 45°C, a lower temperature than No. 1.
This part is a weak point. The rated output is 500W, and appliances bigger than that will not run. Accept that. It suits one night for solo campers or two people.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 67,988 (as of 10/14). Prices change daily.
No. 3 Anker × Snow Peak 1000: 1056Wh, the largest of the six
It is the second collaboration with Snow Peak, released in April 2025. The capacity is the largest of the six and can grow to 2112Wh with a separately sold expansion battery. Anker explains that it can charge in as little as about 58 minutes. That is fast.
The weak point is weight. It is about 12.9kg, or about 81.9Wh per kg. It is a unit for families on multi-night trips who have Snow Peak gear at the site.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 119,900 (as of 10/14). Prices change daily.
No. 4 EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus: 1024Wh, same as No. 1
The capacity and output are the same as No. 1, and with expansion it can grow to a maximum of 5kWh. The battery is lithium iron phosphate, and EcoFlow explains that 80% or more remains after 4000 charge cycles.
This part is a weak point. It is about 12.5kg and JPY 10,000 more than No. 1. The gap is not small. It suits people who want one unit that also covers a home power outage.
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus
Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 73,800 (as of 10/14). Prices vary by up to JPY 158,500 between shops. Prices change daily.
No. 5 Jackery 240 New: a day trip's 200Wh at about 3.6kg
It is light. It fits 256Wh into about 3.6kg, with a usable amount of about 205Wh. That clears the day trip guide.
This part is a weak point. Output is up to 300W. It suits day trips where the main use is charging phones and lanterns.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 32,800 (as of 10/14). Prices change daily.
No. 6 EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus: 286Wh with 600W output
Output is 600W, twice the 240 New. Capacity is 286Wh.
Watch the weight. At about 4.7kg, capacity per kg is the smallest of the six. It is a unit for people who want to run small cooking appliances briefly. I compare lantern runtimes in LED lantern lumens and runtime.
Why can you use less than the listed portable power station capacity?
| Model | Usable amount guide | Per kg | Per Wh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1000 New V3 | About 819Wh | About 96.6Wh | About JPY 107 |
| 500 New | About 410Wh | About 89.8Wh | About JPY 136 |
| Anker × Snow Peak 1000 | About 845Wh | About 81.9Wh | About JPY 114 |
| DELTA 3 Plus | About 819Wh | About 81.9Wh | About JPY 117 |
| 240 New | About 205Wh | About 71.1Wh | About JPY 128 |
| RIVER 3 Plus | About 229Wh | About 60.9Wh | About JPY 139 |
The electricity in the battery is direct current, and it is converted to the same alternating current as a household outlet before it goes to appliances. Some is lost as heat in this conversion. That is why you cannot use all of it. Anker puts the guideline at 80%.
The math is simple: usable amount ÷ appliance wattage. For a 50W appliance, the 500 New runs about 8 hours (410 ÷ 50). Work backward from the hours you want, and choose a capacity divided by 0.8.
Where you keep it matters too. NITE cautions not to leave lithium-ion battery products in a hot car, to avoid strong impacts, and to stop using one that swells or gets abnormally hot.
Who is it for?
It suits people who want to run an electric blanket or appliances overnight. The No. 1 1000 New V3 is a new model from July 2026, and its capacity per kg and price per Wh are the best of the six. For sites far from the car, the 500 New at half the weight fits.
If the only electricity you use is charging phones and lanterns, a mobile battery is enough. If you stay at a campsite plot with a power hookup, you can use that instead.
