Is the Kinoko Tent 2 a buy? The floor is 1.4 times, and some numbers dropped
A buy for families of four who want a roomy bedroom.
In its Sep 4, 2026 press release, DOD describes the Kinoko Tent 2 as "inner size enlarged 1.4 times over the previous model." I multiplied out the dimensions, and the ratio checked out.
However, the fly's minimum waterproof rating dropped and the groundsheet that used to come with it is gone. If you sleep in a tent more than half the year, you can't avoid every rainy night. So on a new model's table, after floor area, I read the waterproof rating and included-items rows.
How I judged it
What I looked at first was floor area. Inner width × depth goes from 7.14㎡ to 10.03㎡, 1.40 times. The price is 1.39 times, so per square meter of floor it is about the same.
What I struggled with is that the fly drops to 2,000mm and the groundsheet becomes a separate purchase. I still recommend it, because 85cm per adult for 4 and a 175cm ceiling come with it, still one-touch.

A tent whose price rose as much as it grew. Weight rose only 1.25 times, but the previous model's about 11.2kg is the figure for a product that includes a groundsheet.
The capacity wording changes from "2 adults, 2 children" to "4 adults." The previous model was 288 ÷ 4 = 72cm, so width per person grew by 13cm.
How it differs from the Deka Kinoko Tent Air

What I praise, and what to watch
What I like
4 adults at 85cm each. Among 12 new 2026 tents, dividing floor width by the maximum capacity, this was the only one over 75cm. Even with two 120cm-wide mats side by side, you have 100cm left along the 340cm long side of the floor.
No threading poles. It opens like an umbrella and you extend six legs. The back of the fly has a black coating with light blocking of 99.9% or more, which helps if bright summer mornings wake you.
Things to watch
The fly's minimum waterproof rating is 2,000mm, and this is a weak point. DOD sets its waterproof rating so the minimum value is at or above the stated figure, and by that same method it fell 1,000mm from the previous model. How to read the numbers is in the article on tent waterproof ratings.
For eating in the rain you need a separate roof, a tarp. If you want a single tent that also covers the living area, the comparison of 10 two-room tents suits you better.
