Captain Stag's 10L jug is a buy for families of 3 to 5 who want to keep cold water and hot tea for a day. The deciding point is a cold-keeping figure of 11°C or below (8 hours), 4°C lower than the 8L in the same series. If you only carry water for washing up, a water tank with no insulation is enough.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
In jugs of the same build, the bigger one keeps the water inside from warming up as fast. The amount of cold water grows faster than the area of wall that lets heat in. So if I cannot choose between 8L and 10L, I take the 10L. The JPY 1,100 difference is not for capacity; it is money for the 4°C in the listing.
Key points
- The cold-keeping figure (8 hours) is 16°C or below for the 6L, 15°C or below for the 8L and 11°C or below for the 10L. Even in the same series, the number changes with capacity
- The difference from the 8L is JPY 1,100 and about 400g. The added 2.0L costs JPY 550 per liter, about half of the whole 10L's JPY 1,002 per liter
- The height in use is about 495mm, and about 425mm with the legs folded. Full, it weighs about 12.2kg

Of Captain Stag's jugs, only the 10L keeps cold 4°C lower
Captain Stag's “Pour to the Last Drop! Water Jug” has three sizes officially listed: 6L, 8L and 10L. The cold-keeping figure (8 hours) is 16°C or below for the 6L and 15°C or below for the 8L. Only the 10L is 11°C or below.
It is worth buying for families who want to keep both cold water and hot tea for a day, for 3 to 5 people. If you only carry water for washing up and hand washing, a water tank with no insulation is enough.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the cold-keeping figure of 11°C or below (8 hours). Compared with the 8L in the same series, the gap was 4°C and the price gap JPY 1,100. What I wavered on was the height in use, about 495mm. You have to choose where to put it.
I still made it my pick because both cold-keeping and heat-keeping have numbers. When you spend half the year camping, the same 1 unit comes out in midsummer and on frosty mornings. The added 2L costing JPY 550 per liter was also a deciding point.

Water Jug 10L capacity and cold/heat keeping (official numbers)
| Item | Pour to the Last Drop! Water Jug 10L (UE-2034) |
|---|---|
| Official price (incl. tax) | JPY 10,120 |
| Usable capacity | About 10.1L |
| Weight | About 2.1kg |
| Size in use | About 240 × 280 × 495mm high |
| Packed size | About 240 × 270 × 425mm high |
| Cold-keeping figure | 11°C or below (8 hours) |
| Heat-keeping figure | 73°C or above (6 hours) / 42°C or above (24 hours) |
| Inside and insulation | Aluminum (anodized) / urethane foam |
| Accessories | Cups: large (160ml) and small (110ml) |
Divided by the large cup, 10.1L ÷ 160ml is about 63 cups. For 4 people, that is about 15 cups each.
Why bigger means slower to warm up
Heat enters through the jug's wall from outside. According to the Dictionary of Chemistry (2nd edition), the speed of heat carried by conduction is proportional to the area the heat passes through and the temperature gradient. In other words, the heat coming in is set by the area of the wall, and the amount of water being warmed is set by capacity.
The 10L's capacity is 1.63 times the 6L's (10.1 ÷ 6.2). Assuming the same shape scaled up, the wall area grows only about 1.4 times, by 1.63 to the power of two thirds. The wall each liter of water has to cover shrinks, so it warms up more slowly. All three have an aluminum interior and urethane foam insulation. The 16°C, 15°C, 11°C order points the same way as this reasoning.
The weak points
The first is height. In use it is about 495mm, and about 425mm even with the tripod stand folded. It only gets 70mm lower (495 − 425). In a car trunk, you have to decide where it stands upright first.
The second is weight. Taking 1L of water as about 1kg, full it is 2.1 + 10.1 = about 12.2kg. It has a handle, but it is not a weight to carry long with one hand from the kitchen area.
The inside is aluminum, and the product page does not state that it is compatible with sports drinks. Captain Stag's selection guide says to use a plastic jug, or one labeled as compatible, for sports drinks.
Differences from the 8L and 6L, and LOGOS's water tank

| Model | Capacity and weight | Cold-keeping figure (8 hours) | Official price | Per liter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Captain Stag 10L (UE-2034) | About 10.1L, about 2.1kg | 11°C or below | JPY 10,120 | JPY 1,002 |
| Captain Stag 8L (UE-2027) | About 8.1L, about 1.7kg | 15°C or below | JPY 9,020 | JPY 1,114 |
| Captain Stag 6L (UE-2026) | About 6.2L, about 1.5kg | 16°C or below | JPY 8,250 | JPY 1,331 |
| LOGOS Antibacterial Wide-Mouth Shoulder Water Container 16 | About 16L, about 400g | Not listed | JPY 2,178 | JPY 136 |
From 8L to 10L is an extra JPY 1,100 and about 400g. The added capacity is 2.0L, so 1,100 ÷ 2.0 = JPY 550 per liter. That is about half of the 10L's whole-jug JPY 1,002, so the bigger one is priced cheaper per liter.
- If you want to keep things cold, the 10L. The only reasons to pick the 8L are that it is about 65mm lower (495 − 430) and about 400g lighter.
- If you only carry water, LOGOS. At JPY 136 per liter, it is about 1/7 of the 10L (1,002 ÷ 136 = 7.4). Folded, it is about 14cm high.
