The difference between the Landlock X and Landlock is that the price is 1.97 times higher and the capacity goes from 6 people to 4. The X if you are up to four people and pitch in windy places; the previous Landlock if five or six sleep. The X is JPY 249,700 and about 25.5kg, and the packed size across the two bags drops from 116.0L to 100.5L.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The Landlock X is a tent where you pay the difference not for room but for the frame and fabric. The outer dimensions are as before, the frame was rebuilt with DAC, and the fly fabric changed from 150 denier to 75 denier. So the price per person goes up and the packed size gets smaller. I recommend the X only to people who are up to four and pitch in windy places.
Key points
- The listed capacity is 6 people for the previous Landlock and 4 for the Landlock X. The price per 1 person goes from JPY 21,083 to JPY 62,425
- Pegs are not included. The official page writes that 25 forged pegs of 30cm or more are needed. The previous Landlock came with 27 duralumin pegs
- Wood stove compatibility applies when using the separately sold Fly Cover TC (JPY 127,600). With the body it is JPY 377,300

The difference between the Landlock X and Landlock is a price of 1.97x
The X for people who are up to four and pitch in windy places; the previous Landlock if five or six sleep.
The Landlock X's official price is JPY 249,700 and the previous Landlock's is JPY 126,500. The maker explains “the outer dimensions are as they were,” so it is a purchase where you pay 1.97 times for a tent of the same size.
What changed for the JPY 123,200 difference? The frame and fabric. I lined up 2 Snow Peak official product pages and subtracted 1 lines at a time.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was price, and next I compared line by line with the previous Landlock the numbers that moved for that difference. The wall waterproof rating went up from 1,800mm to 3,000mm, the skirt from 450mm to 1,800mm, and the packed size shrank by 15.5L across the two bags.
What I wavered on was the headcount. The listing went from 6 to 4, and the 25 pegs are not included either. I still recommend it because the numbers for where rain hits from the side line up, and even the frame was rebuilt, and it suits people up to four who pitch in windy places.

What moved was the price per 1 person. The previous Landlock was also “4 adults comfortably” in size, and supposing I divide by 4 people it is JPY 31,625. Still 1.97 times.
The thread got thinner. Denier is a unit of thread thickness, and the smaller the number, the finer the thread. Even so, the whole is 1.0kg heavier, with a shield roof (a fabric over the roof) and one ridge pole added.
The packed size is 15.5L smaller
When you spend more than half the year in a tent, you strike it and load the car dozens of times a year, so with 2-room tents I look at the volume of the bag before weight.
The bags got smaller. Multiplying the packed dimensions, the total of the two bags went from 116.0L to 100.5L, 0.87 times. The fabric bag went from 89.1L to 72.0L, with its height down from 36cm to 30cm, but the frame bag went up the other way, from 26.9L to 28.5L, by 1.6L.
What I praise, and what to watch
The numbers for where rain hits from the side now line up. The previous Landlock had 3,000mm on the roof only, with low numbers for the wall and skirt, but the X has 3,000mm on both roof and wall. I put how to read the numbers in the tent waterproof rating article.
It stands the walls up and widens the inside by about 10%. It raises the walls nearly vertical without changing the outer dimensions, and the frame is a high-strength aluminum alloy from pole maker DAC, improving wind resistance and ease of setup.
The size of the bedroom can change. The inner room switches between 4-person and 2-person setups, and on days you use it for two, the living area gets wider by the amount you shrink it.
That pegs are not included is a mixed point. You need 25 forged pegs of 30cm or more. For people who do not own them, this adds to the price.
Setup takes two or more people. You cannot use it with the side tarp or connect tarp made for the previous Landlock.
Who the Landlock X suits
- Families of up to four, who sometimes go out as two
- People who pitch in places with wind or driving rain
- People whose car trunk fills up first. The fabric bag got 17.1L smaller

Who is it for?
It suits families of up to four who pitch in windy places. The wall waterproof rating went up to 3,000mm, and the frame and fabric are new.
If five or six sleep, the previous Landlock, listed for 6, gives more room. If you have no complaint with the previous Landlock, the outer shape is the same, so keeping it is also an option.
