The Tough Screen 2-Room Air/MDX+ is a buy for a family of four who often camp on 8 × 8m plots. The bedroom floor is about 300 × 250cm, 75cm per person for four, and the outer length is about 560cm, so even with 1m of guy-line room front and back it fits in 8m. Watch the weight of about 20kg and that the spec column does not mention a skirt.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
If you cannot choose between the MDX+ and the LDX+, decide by whether to pay JPY 10,000 for 60cm of living space, not the bedroom. On the official dimension drawings the bedroom floors are both about 300 × 250cm; the only difference is the living-side section, 260cm and 320cm. And the bedroom and ridge poles are aluminum alloy on the cheaper MDX+ and FRP on the pricier LDX+. So for a family of four going to 8 × 8m plots, I choose the MDX+.
Key points
- Of the four sibling models, only the MDX+ has a bedroom fly of about 3,000mm and aluminum alloy poles in all three places
- Packed it is about φ34 × 74cm, which calculates to about 67L as a cylinder. Adding the genuine sheet set (about 3kg) makes about 23kg in total
- At the official shop, the TAN is shown as addable to the cart for JPY 109,780, and the regular color shows a sale price of JPY 72,600 with a waiting-for-stock notice (Oct 13, 2026)

Is the Tough Screen 2-Room Air/MDX+ a buy?
Yes, if your family of 4 often camps on 8 × 8m plots. On Oct 13, 2026, Coleman's official online shop listed 2 colors, the TAN and the regular color, and the dimensions, weight, waterproof rating and poles were the same numbers.
When you spend more than half the year in a tent, you pitch and strike it dozens of times a year. So before the price tag, I read the outer length, weight and packed length.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the outer length of about 560cm. Even adding 1m of guy-line room front and back, it is 7.6m. It fits an 8 × 8m plot.
Compared with the LDX+, the bedroom floor is the same, and the difference was the 60cm of living side and JPY 10,120. What I wavered on was the weight of about 20kg and no mention of a skirt. I still recommend it because the 3,000mm bedroom fly and aluminum alloy poles in three places come together only in this one of the four siblings.

MDX+ size and weight (official numbers)
| Item | Official page |
|---|---|
| Price (incl. tax) | JPY 109,780 |
| Outer size | About 560 × 340 × 215 (h) cm |
| Bedroom (inner) | About 300 × 250 × 175 (h) cm |
| Capacity | About 4 to 5 people |

| Packed size | About φ34 × 74cm |
| Waterproof rating | Fly about 3,000mm (bedroom), about 2,000mm (living), floor about 2,000mm |
The bedroom floor is 3.0 × 2.5 = 7.50㎡. Dividing the long side of 300cm by headcount gives 75cm for 4 and 60cm for 5.
A roof fly, two canopy poles, pegs, ropes and even a hammer are included.
Differences from the LDX+ and TX/MDX
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Outer size (length × width) | Weight | Fly waterproof rating | Official price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MDX+ | About 560 × 340cm | About 20kg | About 3,000mm (bedroom) / about 2,000mm (living room) | JPY 109,780 |
| LDX+ | About 610 × 365cm | About 21kg | About 3,000mm | JPY 119,900 |
| TX/MDX | About 560 × 340cm | About 20.5kg | About 2,000mm | JPY 103,290 |
| DX/3025 | About 640 × 320cm | About 18kg | About 2,000mm | JPY 98,780 |
LDX+: The sleeping space is the same, and the living-side section is 60cm longer (320 − 260). The price goes up JPY 10,120, and the bedroom and ridge poles change to FRP (resin strengthened with glass fiber). It is for families who spend long hours in the living area on rainy days, and families who go to 10 × 10m plots.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 77,000 (as of 10/13). Prices vary by up to JPY 103,948 between shops. Prices change daily.
TX/MDX: The outer length and width are the same, with a full skirt all around. The fly is about 2,000mm, and there is no Dark Room listing. It is for families who pitch in spring and autumn and into the start of winter.
DX/3025: The lightest at about 18kg, with a full skirt. But it is about 640cm long, and with the same margin it sticks out of an 8m plot.
What I like
- It delays the heat and glare of morning. The official page explains that the Dark Room fabric blocks 90% or more of light and prevents the sharp rise in temperature in the morning. Trapped heat escapes through mesh with 1.5 times the airflow (compared with the old model).
- Only the bedroom fly is thick. It covers the bedding you cannot afford to get wet with about 3,000mm. The living side's about 2,000mm also reaches Coleman's “2,000mm or more if you expect heavy rain” (how to read waterproof numbers).
Things to watch
- About 20kg. Adding the genuine Tent Sheet Set/3025 (about 3kg) makes about 23kg. At sites far from the parking lot, plan on a cart or wagon.
- Packed it is about φ34 × 74cm. That calculates to about 67L as a cylinder. Measure your car trunk with a tape and check against 74cm and 34cm.
- No mention of a skirt. This part is a weak point. If you camp in cold seasons often, the TX/MDX or DX/3025, whose official pages state a full skirt, come up first as candidates.
Pitched size: does it fit an 8 × 8m plot?
Taking 1m of guy-line room front, back, left and right, it is 5.6 + 2 = 7.6m and 3.4 + 2 = 5.4m. On an 8 × 8m plot, that leaves 0.4m in length and 2.6m in width. The 1m is my assumption, and on windy days you stretch the lines further.
Price and how to buy
The TAN was shown as addable to the cart for JPY 109,780. The regular color's sale price of JPY 72,600 is JPY 37,180 lower, but that day it was waiting for stock, and a note says sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.
What you buy with it is a 2-piece floor sheet, and the Tent Sheet Set/3025 listed as a match was JPY 16,390.

Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 11,980 (as of 10/13). Prices vary by up to JPY 132,300 between shops. Prices change daily.
The inner sheet's sponge is about 5mm thick and is no replacement for a sleeping mat. Choose ground cold protection separately by mat R-value.
Who is it for?
It suits a family of four going to 8 × 8m plots. The bedroom is about 300 × 250cm with 75cm each, and the living area and bedroom come in one tent.
If you already have a dome and a tarp, those two are enough. If carrying about 20kg is hard, I lined up lighter 2-room tents in the 10 two-room tents comparison.
